Men's Basketball Falls 73-71 in Overtime at Freed-Hardeman

Box Score

HENDERSON, Tenn. -- For the second time in less than a week, the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking road loss falling 73-71 in overtime tonight at Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University.

The loss comes on the heels of last Thursday's 67-66 loss at Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University.

Much like the Trevecca Nazarene game, the Blue Raiders seemed in control of the game from the outset. Lindsey Wilson never trailed in the first half en route to a 38-32 halftime lead.

Following the break, Lindsey Wilson (4-2) extended its lead to 58-48 with 7:56 left before the Lions started their comeback.

Freed-Hardeman (3-1) would grab its first lead of the game 64-62 with 2:12 left in regulation.

The lead turned out to be a brief one for the Lions as Lindsey Wilson's Chase Cox buried a three-pointer 27 seconds later to put the Blue Raiders up 65-64 with 1:45 left. Cox finished with nine points -- all from beyond the three-point arc.

Following a pair of Mark Brown free throws that pushed the Lions ahead 66-65, Lindsey Wilson's Justin Archie had a chance to put the Blue Raiders ahead with a couple of free throws of his own. After missing the first, Archie calmly sank the second to tie the game at 66-all and eventually send the game into overtime. Archie lead the Blue Raiders with 14 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

In the extra period, neither team could provide separation as each team enjoyed a two-point lead.

A pair of Kalen Kimberland free throws and an Archie three-pointer would be all the scoring in the extra five minutes for the Blue Raiders. Archie's three gave Lindsey Wilson a 71-70 lead with 2:24 left in the overtime. It would be the last Lindsey Wilson points of the game.

Three free throws from Jonathan Milewski down the stretch would be all the Lions would need to steal the 73-71 win.

Kimberland and teammate Chase Spreen ended the game with 11 points each while Freed-Hardeman's Kyle Teichmann scored a game-high 29 points.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT on Monday, Nov. 21 as the Blue Raiders travel to University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) for their Mid-South Conference opener.
