Men's Basketball Edges Union 71-66

BUENA VISTA, Va. -- Playing Union (Ky.) College for the second time in five days, the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team came out on top of the familiar foe 71-66 on Saturday in the Southern Virginia University Classic.

The Blue Raiders beat the Bulldogs 78-59 to open the season on Nov. 1 at Biggers Sports Center in Columbia.

This time around it was a much tighter game throughout as Lindsey Wilson led just 34-30 at halftime before outscoring Union 37-36 in the second half to secure the win.

Lindsey Wilson improves to 3-0 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 0-3 with the loss.

Senior Chase Spreen has his second-straight big game for Lindsey Wilson, following up a career-high performance on Friday with a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds against Union. Senior Justin Archie and junior Kalen Kimberland both added 13 points.

Union was led by Ian Davis with a game-high 23 points, while Brent Cork added 12 and Josh Hurd finished with 11 for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs kept in the game with their shooting, finishing at 54.9 percent from the field while limiting the Blue Raiders to just 39.7 percent shooting for the game. Lindsey Wilson was even worse from behind the arc, shooting 18.8 percent from the 3-point line (3-of-16).

Neither team held an advantage on the glass as both finished with 28 rebounds, but it was Lindsey Wilson getting 18 points from the free-throw line, compared to just six for Union that proved the difference in the game.

The Blue Raiders fouled just 11 times in the game while the Bulldogs committed 20 to send Lindsey Wilson to the line 26 times compared to just nine attempts for Union.

Junior Josh White was also a difference maker for Lindsey Wilson, despite scoring just four points he hauled in eight rebounds, including a game-high four offensive rebounds.
