Football Falls at No.4 Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College football team's hopes for a Mid-South Conference East Division title will have to wait another season as the Blue Raiders fell 56-27 today to No. 4-ranked Georgetown College at Toyota Stadium.

With the win, the Tigers (9-0, 5-0) claim the division title and an automatic bid into the national playoffs. Lindsey Wilson falls to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the East with the loss.

Georgetown jumped out to a 7-0 lead as quarterback Neal Pawsat hit Adam Schmitz over the middle for a 20-yard touchdown. The Tiger score ended Lindsey Wilson's streak of scoring first in each game this season.

Georgetown looked as if they would add to its lead as kicker Alex Kreimer lined up for a 28-yard field goal attempt, but Lindsey Wilson's Mikal Moore sprinted off the edge and blocked the kick and scooped the ball for a touchdown to tie the game at 7-7.

The score -- Moore's first of his career -- covered 77 yards.

Georgetown sprinted out to a 21-7 lead on its next two possessions with a pair of Pawsat touchdown throws. Pawsat finished the game 24-of-36 for 415 yards and six touchdowns.

The Blue Raiders answered with a 60-yard touchdown catch and run by Dakota Brown to cut the deficit to 21-14. Brown finished the day with 70 yards receiving and 49 yards rushing with one touchdown.

Georgetown and Lindsey Wilson traded touchdowns on the next two drives.

Pawsat started the exchange with a 27-yard touchdown throw to Brandon Burdette. Lindsey Wilson's Branden Cresap connected with Chris Dobbins for a 35-yard score to trim the Tiger lead to 28-20. Georgetown blocked the extra point attempt to maintain its eight-point lead.

Following the Lindsey Wilson score, Georgetown used a 10-play, 43-yard drive just before halftime to take a 35-20 lead into the break.

Out of the locker room, the Tigers -- who finished with 523 yards of total offense -- extended its lead to 49-20 before the Blue Raider quarterback Greg Young found Chaz Barnes in the endzone for a 32-yard score. Lindsey Wilson ended the afternoon with 272 yards of total offense.

The Tigers added a late touchdown to win 56-27.

The 27 points are the most this season against the Tiger defense that entered the game allowing just 11.8 points per game.

Lindsey Wilson's Alex Abner led the Blue Raider defense today with a career-high 13 tackles, including 1-1/2 tackles for a loss. Austin Howell chipped in with two of the Blue Raiders' four sacks.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1:30 p.m. CT as the Blue Raiders host UVa.-Wise on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Blue Raider Stadium in the regular season finale.
