WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- A pair of first half goals by Lindsey Wilson College freshman Phillip Sandergren lifted the Blue Raiders to a 3-1 win today over host University of the Cumberlands (Ky.).
Sandergren netted his team-leading sixth and seventh goals of the season in the 34th and 44th minute to give the No. 4-ranked Blue Raiders (5-0, 2-0 in the Mid-South Conference) a 2-0 lead entering halftime.
Junior Lebogang Moloto -- the reigning NAIA and MSC Offensive Player of the Week -- assisted on the first Sandergren goal for his team-best fifth assist of the season. Senior Chris Williams picked up the assist on the second Sandergren goal.
Senior Moses Aduny scored his first goal of the season -- and the 39th of his career -- in the 72nd minute off junior Sicelo Buthelezi's assist to push the lead to 3-0.
Cumberlands' Thiago Andrade scored the Patriots (3-3-1, 1-1 in the MSC) lone goal on a penalty kick in the 87th minute ending the Blue Raiders' shutout streak.
Lindsey Wilson freshman goalkeeper Yuta Nomura's scoreless streak ended at 446:48. Nomura allowed the one goal while stopping three Patriot shots.
Cumberlands goalkeeper Matheus Oliveira finished the match allowing three goals while collecting six saves.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7:30 p.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 24 as the Blue Raiders travel to No. 19-ranked Bryan (Tenn.) College.
