Hanspard Delivers as No. 14 Men's Basketball Handles Shawnee State 85-78

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- While the 3-pointers came flying in from the perimeter, Wes Hanspard did his part in ensuring a Lindsey Wilson College win by controlling the paint for a career-high 18 points as the 14th ranked Blue Raiders beat Shawnee State (Ohio) University 85-78 on Thursday in Biggers Sports Center.

With the lane in control by Hanspard, his teammates Chase Spreen and Chase Cox did damage outside, knocking down 6-of-12 threes to help put away the feisty Bears.

Lindsey Wilson improves to 4-1 in the Mid-South Conference and 12-4 overall with the win, while Shawnee State falls to 7-9 overall and 2-4 in the league.

Spreen finished with 17 points and five rebounds while Cox scored all nine of his points from behind the arc. Josh White came off the bench to tally 11 points and five rebounds, while Justin Archie also added five points and seven assists off the bench.

The Bears had a three-headed attack of Tyler Morgan with 21 points and 12 rebounds, Mark Bryant with 19 points and nine rebounds and Ian Nixson finishing with 17 points and four assists.

In a game that the Blue Raiders allowed the Bears to get back within striking distance late, the three's were what made the difference.

Shawnee State managed to hit just four of its 3-pointers while Lindsey Wilson was 53.3 percent from deep, knocking down eight shots.

Free-throw shooting wasn't bad either as the Blue Raiders hit 23-of-29 attempts, compared to just 16-of-25 for Shawnee State. In addition to his good play around the rim, Hanspard also knocked down all six of his free throws.

The Bears did have an edge on the glass, 39-30, but not in turnovers, committing 18 compared to the Blue Raiders' 14.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 4 p.m. CT on Saturday against Georgetown (Ky.) College in Biggers Sports Center.
