Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Kalen Kimberland hit 9-of-12 free throws to finish with 17 points and lead 11th-ranked Lindsey Wilson College over 12th-ranked Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) 70-68 on Saturday in the LWC Classic at Biggers Sports Center.

Kimberland was joined in double figures by Daronte' Clark with 13 points and DeAntra Scott with 12. The Lions got the majority of their points from two sources, Orlando Bass with a game-high 29 and Isaiah Harrison with 14.

Normally using hot shooting to wear teams down, the Blue Raiders struggled at 44.0 percent from the field. Instead they went to work on defense, forcing 16 Lion turnovers with just eight assists and limiting them to 40.3 percent shooting.

Where Freed-Hardeman didn't struggle was from the stripe, knocking down all 11 of its free-throws to help stay in the game.

Lindsey Wilson finished shooting 2-of-10 from 3-point range and 24-of-33 from the free-throw line.

The game was played tight the whole way with the Lions leading 35-34 at halftime and Lindsey Wilson controlling the second half by a narrow 36-33 margin. The Blue Raiders outrebounded the Lions 37-33.

Lindsey Wilson trailed most of the first half, but not by a very wide margin. Freed-Hardeman's largest lead was five points, reached multiple times with the latest coming on Harrison's jumper with 2:38 left in the half.

Clark knocked down a shot with 15:28 left in the game to give Lindsey Wilson its first lead since the 6:58 mark of the first half.

Once they grabbed the lead, the Blue Raiders never relinquished it, extending it to as many as eight points on Scott's free throw with two minutes to play.

But there was plenty of action left as Freed-Hardeman went on a 5-0 run in the final minute to claw back within a bucket.

Kimberland hit a free throw with 15 seconds to play to give Lindsey Wilson a 69-66 lead, but Bass converted a layup on the other end. The problem for the Lions was time, as less than a second was left on the clock.

Freed-Hardeman called a timeout immediately after the shot, but there were none left, forcing a technical foul. Kimberland hit one of the free throws, then Lindsey Wilson threw a long inbounds pass to run out the clock.

With the win, the Blue Raiders improve to 7-1 on the season and have won three straight games. Freed-Hardeman drops to an even 4-4.

The Blue Raiders are back in action at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday, Nov. 29 at third-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) College.
