RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- Lindsey Wilson College's John-Paul Williamson earned All Mid-South Conference honors for his finish today at the MSC Championships hosted by University of Rio Grande (Ohio).
Williamson posted the third fastest time of the day in the 95-man field to earn one of seven spots on the conference's first-team. Williamson also earned the Mid-South Conference Freshman Runner of the Year award with the fastest time by a freshman. He crossed the finish line nearly a minute ahead of the next freshman in the race.
As a team, the Blue Raiders finished sixth of the 11 MSC schools, posting a team-total of 146 points. No. 6-ranked Shawnee State (Ohio) University captured the team title for the third straight year with 29 team points. University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) was runner-up with 62 points.
Williamson completed the 8,000-meter run in 25 minutes and 35 seconds. He finished 11 seconds off the winning pace set by Shawnee State's Brad Liston' 25:24. Rio Grande's Nick Wilson ended in second at 25:31.
Lindsey Wilson's Garry Korir finished with the second best Blue Raider time of the day at 28:01. Korrir ended in 26th place. David Lee (28:37) ended in 35th position while Ben Graham (31:07) ended in 57th place.
With his finish, Williamson earns a trip to the NAIA National Championships in Vancouver, Wash. later this month.
