No. 8 Men's Basketball Topples Cumberland 82-47

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Daronte' Clark tied for a team-high with 13 points on 3-of-4 shooting from behind the arc to propel eighth-ranked Lindsey Wilson College over Cumberland (Tenn.) 82-47 on Thursday night at Biggers Sports Center.

Kalen Kimberland matched Clark with 13 points, while Wes Hanspard also reached double figures with 12 in a game Lindsey Wilson (17-2, 7-2 MSC) trailed just once after a first-play 3-pointer from Bulldog Creshaun Holt.

"Right now I'm just feeling confident about my shot and every time I get a look I'm shooting," said Clark. "Our outside shooting opens up a lot for our post players too and once you have to double on them we have shooters everywhere."

And those shooters connected on 59.3 percent of their shots from the field and 40 percent from three. The Blue Raiders shot just seven free throws on the night, connecting on all but one.

Cumberland (6-11, 2-7) managed to shoot just 33.3 percent from the field and 21.4 percent from deep as it failed to have a single player reach double digits scoring. Elijah Gillis with nine points was the Bulldogs' leader, who also paced them on the glass with nine rebounds.

DeAntra Scott's seven boards led Lindsey Wilson as it edged Cumberland on the backboards 34-33. The bigger story was taking care of the ball. The Bulldogs had 20 turnovers and seven assists, while Lindsey Wilson issued 18 assists with 15 turnovers.

Lindsey Wilson took its largest lead of 40 points at the nine-minute mark of the second half on a 3-pointer from Brian Nichols. At halftime the Blue Raiders led by 20 after a layup from Hanspard and in the second frame the lead quickly hit 30 on a shot by Milton Watts in the paint with 14:40 to play.

After the brief 3-0 lead to start the game for Cumberland, Lindsey Wilson went up by double digits for good once Clark nailed a three nearly eight minutes in to make the score 21-11. A dunk from Hanspark ended a 9-0 run to extend to lead to 27-11 and from there the rout was on.

It's a quick turnaround for Lindsey Wilson as No. 14 Cumberlands (Ky.) comes to Biggers Sports Center at 4 p.m. CT on Saturday.
