No. 10 Men's Basketball falls to Shawnee State 63-54

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's basketball struggled offensively tonight on its way to a 63-54 loss to Shawnee State (Ohio) at Waller Gymnasium.

The Blue Raiders fall to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the Mid-South Conference. Shawnee State improves to 5-2 and 1-0 in conference play.

Lindsey Wilson shot just 35.4 percent (17-of-48) including three for 17 from beyond the 3-point arc in the loss. The shooting woes even carried over to the free throw line where the Blue Raiders made 17 of their 32 attempts for 53.1 percent.

Following a tight first half -- where the largest lead was five points -- Shawnee State used a 16-4 run to open the second half and take a 38-27 lead with 14 minutes left in the game.

The Blue Raiders managed to cut the deficit to five points on four different occasions -- the last coming at 44-39 with 9:23 left.

The Bears would eventually run back out to a double-digit lead thanks to improving their shooting percentage.

After making just 25.9 percent of its shots in the first half, Shawnee State made 43.5 percent in the second half, including hitting half of their eight 3-poiners. Shawnee State shot 34 percent (17-of-50) from the field for the game.

Shawnee State posted its largest lead of the night following a pair of Devon Carter free throws to give the Bears a 57-45 lead with 3:03 left. Carter finished with a game-high 21 points, including going 10-for-10 at the free throw line.

Lindsey Wilson's Ja'Ln Williams scored the next six points for the Blue Raiders and Tony Horne chipped in a bucket to get Lindsey Wilson within 59-53 with 1:47 left. Williams led the Blue Raiders with 17 points and Horne chipped in 14.

Shawnee State answered with four straight free throws to ice the game.

While Lindsey Wilson committed a season-low four turnovers, the Blue Raiders were out-rebounded 46-33. The Bears scored 15 second-chance points off their 14 offensive rebounds.

Shawnee State's Andrew Devlin joined Carter in double figures with 11 points.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Saturday, Nov. 23 as the Blue Raiders travel to Rio Grande (Ohio).
