No. 3 Men's Basketball Commits 23 Turnovers in 95-87 Loss at No. 17 Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Despite shooting a higher percentage from the field and dominating the backboards, the Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team suffered a 95-87 loss tonight to No. 17-ranked Pikeville (Ky.) at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center.

The culprit in the Blue Raiders' downfall tonight was their inability to protect the basketball. Lindsey Wilson (23-3, 13-3 in the Mid-South Conference) committed a season-high 23 turnovers -- which led to 24 UPike points.

The loss -- a second to Pikeville (20-5, 11-5) this season -- ends the Blue Raiders' nine-game winning streak and allows the Bears, Shawnee State (Ohio) and idle Georgetown (Ky.) to climb within two games of first-place Lindsey Wilson with four games left in the regular season.

Minus the turnovers, Lindsey Wilson did everything right on the offense end shooting 59.3 percent (35-of-59) from the floor. Tonight marks the first time in 14 games this season the Blue Raiders have suffered a loss when shooting at least 50 percent from the field.

Lindsey Wilson also enjoyed a 35-19 rebounding advantage.

But Pikeville shredded the Blue Raider defense -- that entered the game allowing a conference-best 59.9 points per game -- shooting 57.6 percent (34-of-59) and 8-for-12 (66.7 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc.

Lindsey Wilson held brief leads early in the game, including 14-13 five minutes into the game.

Pikeville would regain the lead and stretch it to as many as 12 points in the first half en route to leading 50-40 at the break.

The Bears' lead would swell to as high as 19 points before the Blue Raiders manage to cut it to single digits in the closing moments of the game.

The Blue Raiders placed five players in double figures led by Daronte' Clark's career-high 23 points. He added 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.

DeAntra Scott added 21 points, Wesley Hanspard chipped in 16 points and Kalen Kimberland posted 10 points. Milton Watts recorded his first Lindsey Wilson double-double off the bench with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Jamar Briscoe scored a game-high 26 points and Trevor Setty added 23.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 16 as the Blue Raiders travel to UVa.-Wise in Wise, Va.
