Turnovers Doom Men's Basketball, Fall 70-52 at No. 1 Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team fell 70-52 to No. 1 University of Pikeville (Ky.) Thursday night at the Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville.

Lindsey Wilson (10-7, 1-4 MSC) was led by Daronte' Clark with 12 points followed by D'On Hall and Anthony Crenshaw with 10 apiece. Tony Horne led with five rebounds while Keshaun Mayfield recorded seven assists.

Lindsey Wilson scored the first four points to open the game, but a 12-3 run by Pikeville (13-1, 4-0 MSC) gave the Bears a 12-7 lead with 13:36 to play in the first. With Pikeville leading 17-13, Anthony Crenshaw made field goal that ignited a 10-0 run to give the Blue Raiders a 23-17 advantage. Lindsey Wilson would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the half.

Leading 31-28, Hall made a last second three-point shot to give the Blue Raiders a 34-28 lead heading into the half.

Lindsey Wilson shot 53.6 percent from the field in the first half including 42.9 percent from beyond the arc. The Blue Raiders committed just three turnovers in the first half while recording five blocks and four steals. Pikeville shot 40 percent from the field with 27.3 percent from three-point range.

The second half opened with the Blue Raiders committing seven turnovers in just over five minutes to allow Pikeville to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 36-35. Pikeville would take the lead with two free throws by Pikeville's Chris Cantino, but the Blue Raiders would retake the lead after Kevin Bradshaw was fouled on a made basket. Bradshaw would make the free throw for the 38-37 lead.

With the score tied at 39-39, the Blue Raiders would go on a 5-0 run, followed immediately by 19-0 run by Pikeville to take a 58-44 lead. Lindsey Wilson was held scoreless during that stretch for just under five minutes.

Four points by Lindsey Wilson would cut the lead to ten, but the Blue Raiders were unable to trim it to single digits as Pikeville would control the remainder of the game, winning 70-52.

Lindsey Wilson outshot Pikeville on the night shooting 43.8 percent from the field, compared to 35 percent by the Bears. The Blue Raiders had just nine attempts from the free-throw line compared to 32 for Pikeville. Lindsey Wilson finished with 22 turnovers after having just three in the first half.

Both Chris Cantino and Bruce Reed recorded double-doubles for Pikeville. Cantino led with 27 points and 14 rebounds while Reed recorded 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson returns to the court on Saturday as they travel to Bluefield College for a 3 p.m. CT tipoff.
