Mayfield Records a Double-Double in 82-77 Win Over Campbellsville

COLUMBIA, Ky.Keshaun Mayfield recorded a 16-point, 11 rebound double-double as Lindsey Wilson defeated Campbellsville 82-77 in a Mid-South Conference contest Thursday night at Biggers Sports Center.

Daronte' Clark was a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line, including five free throws in the final four minutes for 16 total points. Tony Horne added 13 points as the Blue Raiders (10-5, 1-2 MSC) recorded their fifth-straight win.

The Tigers (5-6, 0-3 MSC) took an early 10-4 lead, kicked off by a Miles Rice three-pointer. Campbellsville went ahead by as many as 11 points before Roderick Clark scored nine straight points to pull Lindsey Wilson within 32-27.

The Blue Raiders would score the next five points, capped off by two Tony Menton free throws to tie the game at 32-32 with 2:31 remaining in the opening half. Both teams exchanged 5-0 runs before Quin Richardson knocked down both of his free throws to give the Tigers a 39-37 edge at the break.

Campbellsville made six three-pointers and shot 7-of-7 from the charity stripe in the opening 20 minutes, while Lindsey Wilson shot 13-of-16 from the free throw line.

Darius Clement paced Campbellsville with 16 points, while Jordan Myers and Eric Gaines contributed 14 and 11 points respectively. Elliot Young collected a team-high eight boards.

The second half opened with the teams exchanging baskets before Daronte' Clark hit a pair of free throws to take a 50-49 lead with 11:50 remaining. The Blue Raiders extended their lead to 69-59 after a Daronte' Clark three-point play. With two seconds on the shot clock, D'on Hall inbounded the ball for the quick basket and foul by the Tigers, sending Clark to the line.

The Blue Raiders led 72-59 at the 3:09 mark before committing three consecutive turnovers when pressured by the Tigers' defense, allowing Campbellsville to cut the lead to 72-66. Five quick points trimmed the lead to three at 74-71 before the Tigers resorted to fouling with just over a minute to play.

Young rebounded and put back a missed Myers three-pointer to pull within 78-77 with only two seconds remaining. The Tigers sent Horne to the line by fouling before the ball could be put into play, preserving the remaining time. Horne would make both shots to increase the lead to three. A full-court inbounds pass by the Tigers would go out of bounds and Campbellsville would foul Daronte' Clark. Clark would make both free throws, giving Lindsey Wilson the five-point victory.

While Lindsey Wilson allowed Campbellsville to score 34 points in the paint, the Blue Raiders scored 18 points off 14 Tiger turnovers. Lindsey Wilson also had 27 points off the bench, compared to 25 from Campbellsville's.

With the win, Lindsey Wilson ties the all-time series at 14-14 while playing at Biggers Sports Center. Campbellsville holds a 31-27 overall lead, with the teams squaring off again for a Jan. 30 game at Campbellsville.

The Blue Raiders return to action on Jan. 4 as they host St. Catharine (Ky.) for a 4 p.m. CT MSC matchup at Biggers Sports Center.
