WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – After trailing by a goal at halftime, the ninth-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to defeat host Cumberlands (Ky.) 2-1 on Saturday evening.
The Blue Raiders move to 7-2-1 on the year with a 3-0-1 mark in Mid-South Conference play.
Cumberlands falls to 4-6-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the Mid-South.
The Patriots struck first in the 21st minute when Max Aken-Tyers scored to give Cumberlands the 1-0 lead, which held until halftime.
It marked the first time all season the Blue Raiders have trailed at the break.
Lindsey Wilson was finally able to bring the game level in the 69th minute when Adis Islamovic scored on a goal on an assist from Elijah Ukpong.
As the game continued, neither side was able to gain an advantage until Ukpong finally broke the tie in the waning minutes, scoring the go-ahead goal in the 89th minute. It marked Ukpong's first score of the season.
Islamovic and Ukpong both finished with five shots each, including four shots on goal between the pair. Tom Moody added three shots with two on goal.
The Patriots managed seven total shots with just two on goal.
Dalyan Hawes earned the win between the posts making one save while allowing the goal.
Cumberlands' Caio Presa suffered the loss allowing both goals while making nine saves.
Lindsey Wilson finished the game with a 23-7 shot advantage, 13-2 shot on goal advantage and 9-2 lead in corner kicks.
The Blue Raiders return to action when they host Cumberland (Tenn.) on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. CT.
