Men's Basketball secures No. 8 seed in MSC Tournament with 91-75 win over Rio Grande Thursday

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson men's basketball secured the No. 8 seed in the Mid-South Conference Tournament with a 91-75 win over Rio Grande (Ohio) Thursday at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders (15-14, 6-11 MSC) had five players reach double-digit scoring, led by Daronte' Clark with 16 points. Tyrie Orosco was one rebound short of a double-double, scoring 15 points with 9 rebounds. D'on Hall, Tony Horne and Keshaun Mayfield contributed 14, 12 and 10 points respectively. Defensively, Hall and Orosco had three steals each while Horne made two blocks.

Lindsey Wilson scored the game's first seven points, but two three-pointers from D.D. Joiner highlighted an 11-4 run by Rio Grande. Both teams exchanged baskets as Rio Grande led 13-12 at the 13:38 mark, but that would be the last time the RedStorm would hold a lead.

The Blue Raiders scored 13 straight points, jumpstarted by back-to-back threes by Clark. Rio Grande responded with a three by Ricky Tisdale and a 7-5 run, trimming the Lindsey Wilson lead to 30-23 with 4:50 remaining in the opening half. Runs of 7-0 and 6-0 by the Blue Raiders pushed the lead back into double figures as Lindsey Wilson was up 45-27 at the break.

Lindsey Wilson out-rebounded Rio Grande 24-12 in the opening 20 minutes. The Blue Raiders were 45.7 percent from the field and made 9-of-11 free throws. Clark scored 11 of his points to lead Lindsey Wilson, while Joiner scored 17 to lead Rio Grande.

Lindsey Wilson continued their hot shooting as Hall opened the second half with a three-pointer. A field goal by Orosco pushed the Blue Raider lead to 23, the largest of the night. A 9-0 run by the RedStorm cut the lead to 14, but Rio Grande would get no closer. Lindsey Wilson matched the 23-point lead at the 12:12 mark following a field goal by Clark and again at the 8:50 mark after a three-point field goal by Roderick Clark.

The RedStorm attempted to close the gap, turning to their three-point shooters, but it proved to be too little too late as Lindsey Wilson cruised to a 91-75 victory.

Joiner hit 4-of-5 from beyond the arc to pace the RedStorm (16-12, 9-8 MSC) with 24 points. Evan Legg was also 4-of-5 on three-point shooting, adding 12 points, while Tisdale made three three-pointers for 13 points on the night. Jermaine Warmack netted 10 points and added six assists.

Lindsey Wilson scored 20 points off 20 Rio Grande turnovers and 21 points from second-chance opportunities. The Blue Raiders shot 50.0 percent from the field, compared to 45.5 percent by the RedStorm. Lindsey Wilson also led in free throw shooting 78.9 percent to Rio Grande's 65.0 percent. The Blue Raider bench outscored the RedStorm's bench 24-21.

With the win, the Blue Raiders improve to 13-1 in the all-time series against Rio Grande, including 6-0 at home.

Lindsey Wilson concludes the regular season with a 4 p.m. CT MSC contest against Shawnee State (Ohio) Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.
