Men's Basketball falls to Bluefield 70-64 Thursday night

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson's men's basketball fell 70-64 to Bluefield (Va.) Thursday night in a Mid-South Conference game at Biggers Sports Center.

Daronte' Clark hit five three-pointers and shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line to lead the Blue Raiders (12-12, 3-9 MSC) with 23 points, tying a career high. D'on Hall added 13 points with three three-pointers of his own, while Dusan Pantovic came off the bench to net 10 points with five rebounds and three steals. Keshaun Mayfield picked up seven assists and Tyrie Orosco grabbed seven boards to lead the game.

Josh Nesbit opened the scoring to give Bluefield a 2-0 lead, but Lindsey Wilson responded with a three-pointer from Hall. Bluefield would answer with a 6-0 run, but Hall came back and hit a second three-pointer. Using a 10-5 run, the Rams pushed the lead to seven at the 11:28 mark. A field goal by Roderick Clark ignited a 7-1 Lindsey Wilson run, trimming the lead to 19-18 with 9:07 remaining in the opening half.

Bluefield would end the first half outscoring the Blue Raiders 14-7 over the final 8:41 to take a 33-25 lead at the break. Bluefield's Kearsten Marion scored five of his 15 total points during that stretch.

Lindsey Wilson shot 33.3 percent from the field in the first half, compared to 52.0 percent for Bluefield. The Rams hit 3-of-6 shots from beyond the arc while the Blue Raiders were 4-of-10. Lindsey Wilson out-rebounded Bluefield 19-13 but had 13 first-half turnovers, while the Rams had just eight.

The second half opened with Bluefield extending their lead to as many as 18 when they took a 47-29 advantage at the 14:37 mark. A field goal by Kevin Bradshaw would help ignite a 14-2 run by the Blue Raiders, cutting the lead to 49-45 with 9:39 to play.

Lindsey Wilson would continue to chip away at the Bluefield lead, cutting it to one point after a fast-break dunk by Pantovic, followed by an Orosco basket to make it 54-53 with 6:10 to play.

The Rams would respond with an 8-0 run, highlighted by a three-point basket by Andrew Wilson. Lindsey Wilson would trim the Bluefield lead down to three points at 64-61 with 1:16 to play, but could not get it any closer as they fell 70-64.

Lindsey Wilson out-rebounded Bluefield 33-25 and held the advantage in free throw shooting (75.0-52.9), second-chance scoring (19-10), steals (11-10) and points off the bench (40-14). However, the Rams were able to score 21 points off of 19 Blue Raider turnovers.

The Rams (11-8, 4-7 MSC) had four players reach double-digit scoring, led by Nesbit with 16 points. Marion scored 15, Wilson contributed 14 and Devin Page added 10. Wilson made four of Bluefield's seven three-pointers and added five steals on the night.

With the loss, Lindsey Wilson is now 4-2 against Bluefield. This was the first home loss to the Rams in program history.

The Blue Raiders return to action Saturday as Lindsey Wilson hosts No. 2 Pikeville (Ky.) for a 4 p.m. CT conference matchup at Biggers Sports Center.
