COLUMBIA, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson men's basketball could not complete the upset over No. 2 Pikeville (Ky.), falling 78-70 Saturday night at Biggers Sports Center.

Keshaun Mayfield and Anthony Crenshaw led the Blue Raiders (12-13, 3-10 MSC) with 13 and 12 points respectively. Mayfield added seven assists and three steals while Tyrie Orisco came off the bench to grab 11 rebounds.

The first half was close, marked by four ties and three lead changes. Pikeville opened the scoring with a free throw from Keala King and a field goal by Elisha Justice, but Lindsey Wilson responded with a three-pointer from Crenshaw. The Bears pushed the lead to 12-7, but a 5-0 run by the Blue Raiders tied the game at the 13:10 mark.

Both teams exchanged baskets and Bruce Reed converted a free throw before Mayfield knocked down a three-pointer to give Lindsey Wilson its first lead, 17-15. Pikeville's Josh Whitaker then made a three of his own to ignite a 9-0 run by the Bears. After a Tony Menton bucket made it 24-19, King sunk a shot from beyond the arc to give Pikeville an eight-point lead, its largest of the half. A 14-6 run by the Blue Raiders tied the game at 33-33 with 31 seconds remaining in the half. The Bears sent Simon Barres to the charity stripe with three seconds on the clock and the junior made a free throw for a 34-33 Lindsey Wilson lead at the break.

The Bears (21-2, 11-1 MSC) had four players reach double-digit scoring. King led the way with 21 points including 13 in the first half, followed by Reed with 18, Whitaker with 14 and Justice with 11.

Neither team could get any separation early in the second. After several ties and five lead changes, Orosco made both of his free throws to tie the game at 48-48 with 12:11 to play. Pikeville took control for the rest of the game, pushing its lead to a game-high 10 points at the 4:42 mark after a Kenny Manigault field goal. The Blue Raiders fought back to within five after a 7-2 run, highlighted by a three-pointer from Daronte' Clark.

With 3:18 left in the game, Pikeville used a couple of 4-0 runs to go up 76-66 and take the clock down to 23 seconds. Two lay ups from Kevin Bradshaw made it 76-70, but with only four seconds remaining it proved to be too late. Lindsey Wilson sent Reed to the line and he would make both shots for the final score.

The Blue Raiders out-rebounded the Bears 32-26 and had 15 second-chance points compared to Pikeville's 10. Lindsey Wilson's bench outscored Pikeville's 27-6, but the Bears scored 22 points off 18 Blue Raider turnovers.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action Thursday, Feb. 13 as the Blue Raiders host Cumberland (Tenn.) for an 8 p.m. CT conference game at Biggers Sports Center.
