BARDSTOWN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's golf team claimed the 2014 Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship on Wednesday at the Bardstown Country Club at Maywood after shooting a team score of 295 in the final round.
Lindsey Wilson led by 11 strokes heading into the final day and expanded that to 19 following the best team round of the day. With the tournament win, the Blue Raiders claim its fourth MSC Tournament Championship in program history.
The Blue Raiders shot a tournament total of 880 (289-296-295) to win the championship over University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). Cumberlands finished the tournament with a total score of 899 (292-304-303). Cumberland (Tenn.) University shot a 909 (294-306-309) as a team to finish in third place.
Lindsey Wilson received the automatic bid for the NAIA National Championships at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. beginning May 13 with today's victory.
Four Blue Raiders finished the tournament in the top-6 including Franck Medale who finished in a tie for first place.
Medale finished in a tie for first place with Michal Pospisil of Cumberlands after shooting a 1-under par 71 in the final round, but was runner-up following Pospisil's par on the first playoff hole.
Medale and Pospisil played in the same group today as Pospisil held a two-stroke lead on Medale heading into the final round. Medale started the round with three birdies and a triple bogey to finish the front nine at even-par while Pospisil played the front nine at 2-over par. On the back nine, Medale closed the gap as he shot a 1-under par to finish the tournament at 1-over par.
Pospisil had the lead heading into the tough par 3 16th hole, but a double bogey cost him two shots and put him in a tie for first with Medale. Medale birdied the 15th hole and parred the remaining three holes to stay tied with Pospisil. Pospisil made par on the first playoff hole to secure first place and the individual medal.
Chris Butler started the day in second place but a string of bogeys on the back nine put him at 3-over par for the day. Butler finished the tournament in third place having shot a 2-over par 218 (69-74-75) over the three day tournament.
Jonathon Grabara moved up two spots on the final leaderboard after shooting a 2-over par 74 in the final round. Grabara finished with four birdies including a stretch of three-straight to start the back nine. A double on 17 and a bogey on 18 put him at even-par on the back nine. He shot a 6-over par 222 (71-77-74) in the tournament.
Federico Navarro finished in a tie for sixth place following his 3-over 75 in the final round. Navarro started the day in a tie for seventh and moved up following a round with three birdies and nine pars. Navarro shot a 7-over par 223 (77-71-75) during the championships.
Nathan Hincks shot 17-over par 233 (79-77-77) for the tournament to finish in a tie for 19th place. Hincks played the final round at 5-over par with one birdie and 11 pars.
Alex Durham finished the tournament in a tie for 15th place after a final round 11-over par 83.
After the final round, the All-Mid South Conference teams were announced. Medale and Butler earned First Team All-Conference while Grabara, Navarro and Hincks all earned Second Team All-Conference honors.
All-conference honors are selected based on a golfers best five rounds out of the seven rounds played during the MSC fall tournament, spring tournament and championship tournament.
