LONDON, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson College men's golf team shot a two-round score of 584 (296-288) to take took home first place at the Bill Sergent Invitational on Friday at the Crooked Creek Golf Club.
Chris Butler led the way for the Blue Raiders after carding a 1-under par 71 during the final round for a two-day total 144 (73-71).
Butler began his day with solid play after recording pars on 10 of the first 11 holes, including a birdie on the par-5 523-yard third. He would go on to record three birdies and three bogeys with one par in his final seven holes for a 71.
Ryan Nowe, playing as an individual, also finished with a 144 (77-67) after carding a 5-under par 67, the lowest round of the tournament by four strokes.
After shooting 1-under par on his first nine holes, Nowe recorded an eagle, three birdies and two pars on his next six holes to move to 6-under before dropping a stroke after a bogey on his 17th hole to finish at 5-under.
Both Butler and Nowe were named co-medalist after tying for first place with their low scores of the invitational.
Federico Navarro finished one stroke behind Butler and Nowe in third place after shooting a 1-over par 145 (72-73) for the tournament. Alex Durham also shot a 71 in the final round to finish with a two-day total of 146 (75-71) in a tie for fourth place.
Jordan Hagan shot a 149 (76-73) to sit tied for eighth while Nathan Hincks finished with a 157 (84-73) in a tie for 29th place.
All six Blue Raiders in competition finished well below the course average of 79.39 on day two at the 6,930-yard course.
Union (Ky.) and Cumberlands (Ky.) finished in a tie for second place after both teams finished with two-round totals of 299, 15 strokes behind Lindsey Wilson. Union previously held a two-stroke lead over the Blue Raiders after the first round of competition on Thursday.
The Blue Raiders return to the links on Sept. 15 when they head to Jekyll Island, Georgia, for the Coastal Georgia Invitational.
