Men's Basketball rolls past Fisk, 85-63

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team had five players score in double figures in an 85-63 win against Fisk (Tenn.) on Saturday night at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders (10-8) shot 51.6 percent from the field (33-of-64), while the visiting Bulldogs (0-15) hit 18-of-61 field-goal attempts (29.5 percent) in a losing effort. Additionally, Lindsey Wilson finished with a 46-to-39 rebounding advantage over Fisk.

To open the night, the Blue Raiders sprinted out to a double-digit lead at 12-2 as early as near the 15:45 mark of the first half.

Tony Horne accounted for eight of the team's first 12 points in that stretch, and D'on Hall and Bryan Wallace each contributed a pair of points during that four-plus-minute spurt.

In the subsequent span of over five minutes, Lindsey Wilson went on an 11-1 run to assume a 23-3 edge.

With the shot clock winding down to less than five seconds, Hannes Erhardt gathered in a pass near the low post, and successfully banked in a two-point basket to seal the Blue Raiders' run with roughly 10:30 to go in the opening half.

Further on down the line, Lindsey Wilson scored nine unanswered points to hold a 35-10 advantage with the clock near the 4:30 mark before halftime. In this stretch, Hall had five points, and Tony Menton and Keshaun Mayfield added two points each.

Hall accounted for the final basket of the first half with 10 seconds remaining to put the Blue Raiders up by a 42-16 margin as both teams headed to their respective locker rooms at the break.

During the first half, Lindsey Wilson shot 17-of-33 from the field (51.5 percent), and outrebounded Fisk by a 25-to-15 margin. By comparison, the Bulldogs hit 25.0 percent of their field-goal attempts (5-of-25) and turned the ball over a dozen times.

In the opening half alone, the Blue Raiders had three players each score at least eight points. Hall had 11 points, Menton added nine points and Horne contributed eight points.

During the second half of play, the Bulldogs improved their field-goal percentage to 36.1 percent (13-of-36) and also hit 17-of-20 free-throw attempts (85.0 percent) to outscore the Blue Raiders by a 47-to-43 margin. Lindsey Wilson, however, continued to shoot well from the floor as it converted 51.6 percent of its second-half field goals (16-of-31) to secure the victory.

Hall ended the night with 13 points and six rebounds for the Blue Raiders. Menton had season highs with 13 points and five rebounds.

Mayfield scored 11 points, and led all players with five assists and four steals. Also finishing in double figures was Wallace, who contributed an even 10 points.

Richmond Jackson ended with game bests of 22 points and 10 rebounds for Fisk. He hit 9-of-10 free-throw shots and also had three steals.

Up next for Lindsey Wilson is a road game against No. 4-ranked Pikeville (Ky.) with the opening jump scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on Thursday.
