Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Serge Gomis made the most of his limited time on the pitch tonight with a pair of goals as Lindsey Wilson men's soccer beat visiting Cumberlands (Ky.) 3-0 at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
After sitting out the first half, Gomis stepped onto the pitch and proceeded to score his fifth and sixth goals of the season.
Gomis scored the game's first goal in the 57th minute in unorthodox fashion. He curled one of Lindsey Wilson's five corner kicks over the head of Cumberlands goalkeeper Ahmed Ghatwary and inside the far post to give the Blue Raiders the 1-0 lead.
Three minutes later, Gomis doubled the Lindsey Wilson (10-2, 3-0 in the Mid-South Conference) lead charging deep inside the penalty box. Anthony Tshimpi started the scoring play with a service from the left flank. The ball traveled through a pair of Cumberlands' defenders and onto the head of the diving Gomis from just outside the six-yard box.
Following the goal, Gomis exited the game, finishing the night with two goals in just 15 minutes of action.
The two goals sparked an explosive offensive half for the Blue Raiders, who outshot the Patriots (6-4-1, 0-2 MSC) 9-4 in the second frame and 17-8 for the match. After the two teams split two shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes, Lindsey Wilson -- who was very efficient after the break -- hit the target seven times in the second half compared to Cumberlands' one.
Tauan Salgado added the final goal of the night in the 70th minute.
Moustapha Fofana assisted on the play -- his third of the season -- serving the ball from the right flank to Salgado just inside the penalty box. Salgado trapped the pass, spun away from a Cumberlands defender and finished his fifth goal of year in the upper right corner for the 3-0 lead.
Yuta Nomura recorded his 30th career shutout, adding to his program record, while collecting two saves. With his 90 minutes tonight, Nomura passes Dean Wortz for the most minutes played by a Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper. He completed the game with 6,590 career minutes.
Ghatwary ended with five saves while allowing all three goals.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 3, as the Blue Raiders travel to Cumberland (Tenn.) in Lebanon, Tennessee.
