Track and Field competes at UIndy Winter Break Meet on Friday night

INDIANAPOLIS – The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's track and field teams competed in their second event of the season on Friday night in the UIndy Winter Break Meet, hosted by the University of Indianapolis.

The competition included a variety of track and distance events, along with a selection of field events.

On the women's side, freshman Annesha Harris had a strong showing as she set a new school record in the 60 meter hurdles event with a time of 9.54, breaking the previous school record of 9.68 set two seasons ago. Her day was not done yet though as she set an even better mark in the finals of the event with a time of 9.40 to take eighth place in the race.

Harris continued her strong day in the field events as she finished the long jump in sixth place with a distance of 5.03 meters, and the triple jump event with a distance of 10.71 meters to take fourth place.

Oreatha Hurt finished right behind Harris in both jumping events as she took eighth in the long jump (4.93 meters) and sixth in the triple jump (10.11 meters).

Vashawnda Smith just missed out on qualifying for the finals of the 60 meter dash as she finished ninth in the preliminaries with a time of 8.08. Smith added a 13th-place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.70, winning her heat.

In the 600 meter run event, Alexia DeHaven-Boyd provided the top Blue Raider finish as she took sixth with a time of 1:47.24 in the field of 14 runners.

On the men's side, Dondre Mimms led the way with a second-place finish in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.94 seconds, just .08 seconds behind the event winner. His time set a new school record in the event, surpassing the previous program mark of 6.96 which had stood since 2007. Mimms' time was just .01 seconds shy of achieving a national "B" standard.

Kevin Hallmon also qualified for the finals of the 60 meter dash as he finished sixth with a time of 7.04 in the event that featured 47 runners. Holt Keeling nearly earned a spot in the finals, but he finished in 10th in the preliminaries with a time of 7.12.

In the 200 meter dash, Austin Hayes and Hallmon finished in fourth and fifth place with times of 22.45 and 22.69, respectively in a race that included 40 competitors.

Dante Johnson also notched a second-place finish on the day, grabbing runner-up in the 60 meter hurdles event with a time of 8.33 seconds. He trailed the winning time by .21 seconds. Johnson's preliminary time in the event of 8.32 broke his own school record of 8.41 seconds which he set last season. The time was also good enough for a national "A" standard. Cameron Murphy just missed out on a spot in the finals after he recorded a time of 8.82 in the preliminaries to finish ninth, one place outside of the final heat.

In the final track event, the men's relay team of Mimms, Hayes, Johnson and Jayshawn Coleman teamed up to win the 4x400 meter relay event with a time of 3:33.50, beating out the second-place team from Indiana Tech who finished at 3:35.25.

Tylor Pinkard provided the best finish for the men's team in the field events after he took ninth place in the long jump event with a distance of 6.14 meters.

The men's and women's track and field teams return to action in 2016 when they head to the University of Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 15.
