COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team upset No. 9 Georgetown (Ky.) 100-83 on Thursday night inside Biggers Sports Center.
With the victory, the Blue Raiders (15-11, 6-7 MSC) have now won five of the past six games, beating three ranked opponents in the stretch. Georgetown falls to 21-4 on the year with an 8-3 mark in conference play.
Reco Lewis tallied a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the win, while D'on Hall led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Charles Sutton poured in a career-high 17 points while Julian Edmonson finished with 16 and Tony Horne had 10.
After the Tigers trimmed the Blue Raider lead to three, the Blue Raiders went on a 17-10 run in a span of four minutes to push the lead to double digits at 87-77 with 5:10 left in the game. Lindsey Wilson maintained at least a 10-point lead the rest of the way en route to the upset.
As Lindsey Wilson led 20-12 with 12:48 remaining in the first half, Georgetown went on a 14-6 run to tie the game at 26 with 8:41 to go before halftime.
The Tigers took a slight lead, but a basket by Hannes Erhardt took the lead back for Lindsey Wilson at the 2:51 mark of the first half.
The Blue Raiders pushed it to as many as six points before a basket by the Tigers with six seconds left made it a 46-42 Lindsey Wilson lead at the break.
The Blue Raiders shot 50.0 percent from the field, while the Tigers tallied a 48.6 percentage in the half. Lindsey Wilson shot 55.6 percent from beyond the arc and Georgetown shot just 14.3 percent, making 1-of-7 attempts.
Georgetown was able to take the lead after a basket by Darion Burns at the 17:42 mark, but a bucket by Keshaun Mayfield took it right back for Lindsey Wilson on the ensuing possession.
The Tigers kept attempting to take the lead back, cutting it to one point on six different occasions, but were never able to jump ahead as Lindsey Wilson led 66-65 with 11:53 to play.
With 9:30 remaining, the Blue Raiders found a rhythm as Lewis scored five-straight points to push the lead to eight points. After a Georgetown basket, Edmonson nailed a three-pointer giving the team a 78-69 lead with 7:54 left.
As Lindsey Wilson continued to make shots, Georgetown struggled from the field late going 2-of-9 after the Blue Raiders made it a double-digit lead at the 5:10 mark.
The Blue Raiders made their final four attempts from the floor as the Tigers went 0-for-5 in the final two minutes.
Lindsey Wilson totaled a 53.4 percentage from the floor and the Tigers shot 46.3 percent. Georgetown did not hit a three-point shot in the second half tallying a 6.3 percentage for the game, while Lindsey Wilson shot 47.8 percent from beyond the arc.
Lindsey Wilson had 27 second chance points and Georgetown only totaled 10. The Tigers had 14 turnovers and the Blue Raiders turned the ball over nine times.
McWhorter finished with an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double to lead the Tigers. Corey Washburn also totaled a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.
Lindsey Wilson next faces Shawnee State (Ohio) on Saturday, Feb. 14 on Senior Day. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. CT.
