No. 5 Men's Tennis cruises to 8-1 win over Martin Methodist

PULASKI, Tenn. – The fifth-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team won their sixth-consecutive match with an 8-1 victory over Martin Methodist (Tenn.) on Saturday.

The Blue Raiders (8-2) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead over the RedHawks (6-7) after sweeping the three doubles points.

Denis Porcic and Raul Mendez captured the first point at the No. 2 position by defeating Saloman Persson and Daniel Emirzian 8-4. Edberg Espinoza and Francisco Charters followed with an 8-5 victory at the top position over Ramiro Vargas and Raphael Monzione to make it 2-0. Ignacio Huertas and Pablo Vilches secured the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win at the No. 3 position for the 3-0 advantage heading into singles play.

Espinoza captured the fourth point with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the top singles position over Vargas, and Porcic sealed the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 2 position over Persson for the 5-0 lead over the RedHawks, who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll.

Mendez captured his first set at the No. 3 singles position with a tiebreaker 7-6(4) before taking the second set 6-3.

Huertas put forth an impressive 6-0, 6-0 shutout playing at the No. 4 singles position over Farith Lozano to push it to 7-0.

The lone Martin Methodist point came at the No. 5 singles position. Charters and Nicolas Galleguillo battled back in the forth in the opening set before Charters won 7-6(8) in the tiebreaker. Galleguillo bounced back with a 6-1 win in the second set to force a super tiebreaker. Galleguillo managed to hold on for the 1-0 (7) super tiebreaker win to capture the lone point for the RedHawks.

Vilches also went to a super tiebreaker at the No. 6 position, but was able to pull out the 6-4, 2-6, 1-0(5) victory to bring the final score to 8-1.

The Blue Raiders are back on the court on Monday when they travel to Pikeville (Ky.) for their Mid-South Conference opener.
