INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Lindsey Wilson men's golf shot a two-day total 599 (310-289) to finish tied for second place at the NAIA Classic held at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course.
After entering the day in eighth place, the Blue Raiders fired the best round of the tournament to tie for second place with No. 15 Cardinal Stritch (Wis.), both squads just one stroke behind tournament winner No. 21-ranked Mount Mercy (Iowa).
Lindsey Wilson shaved 21 strokes off of their opening round 310 to make the climb up the leaderboard at the 17-team tournament.
Chris Butler provided the top finish for the Blue Raiders as his two-day, 4-over par 148 (73-75) in a tie for seventh place. He recorded 24 birdies at the tournament, the most by a Blue Raider and the third most of the field.
Both Federico Navarro and Oliver Cowl finished tied for 15th place with 150s. Navarro (78-72) shot an even-par 72 on the final day to finish at 6-over for the tournament. Cowl began the day tied for 57th after his opening round 9-over par 81, but proceeded to shoot a 3-under par 69 in the final round to finish at 6-over. The 3-under by Cowl tied for the best round of the tournament along with two others in the field
of 93 competitors.
Butler and Navarro both finished the tournament at 1-over par on the par-4s. Navarro concluded his play with seven total birdies.
Nathan Hincks finished a stroke behind Navarro and Cowl with a 7-over par 151 (78-73) in a tie for 20th place. He provided the best Blue Raider finish on the par-3s finishing at even-par.
Ryan Nowe completed the team with a two-day total 169 (91-78) in 86th place.
Cardinal Stritch's Dylan MacQueen took home
the top spot in the standings with a 3-under par 141 (72-69), six strokes better than the next competitor.
Lindsey Wilson next travels to Bardstown, Ky., for the Mid-South Conference Tournament set to tee off on April 19.
