Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. — No. 9 Lindsey Wilson men's soccer held on for a 1-0 victory over Marian (Ind.) on Friday night at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (8-1-0) and the Knights (2-5-1) struggled to establish offense to begin the game with neither team registering a shot until the 20th minute when Marian's Rumman Ariff launched one, but missed the net. Marian did not attempt another shot in the half and Lindsey Wilson recorded six shots, but none were on goal.
It did not take long for the Blue Raiders to end the scoreless tie in the second half. Aleksi Pahkasalo took a corner kick in the 50th minute, which was headed on goal by Jordan Hall. The attempt was cleared off the line by a Marian defender, but caromed right to Serge Gomis near the penalty spot, who bicycle kicked the ball into the middle of the net to put the Blue Raiders ahead.
Lindsey Wilson continued to apply offensive pressure for the remainder of the game, releasing eight additional shots, but the Blue Raiders were unable to double their lead.
The Blue Raiders, who won their sixth straight match, outshot the Knights 10-2 in the second half and 16-3 for the game, but only two of Lindsey Wilson's 16 shots were on goal.
Yuta Nomura recorded two saves to increase his program leading shutout total to 28. The Knights had two free kicks towards the end of regulation, but Nomura saved the first, and the defense cleared away the second as time ran out.
Lindsey Wilson takes the road for its next match at Pikeville (Ky.) at 6 p.m. CT on Sept. 22.
