COLUMBIA, Ky. – The 19th-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's golf team concluded the Blue Raider Kickoff on Saturday as the Blue Raider 'A' team finished in second place with a total of 564, six strokes behind tournament winner No. 11-ranked Dalton State (Ga.).
After holding a seven-stroke lead after the opening round on Friday, the Blue Raiders were unable to hold off the Roadrunners in the final round of competition. Dalton State trimmed four strokes off of their opening round 281, while Lindsey Wilson dropped 16 strokes from their first round to allow the Roadrunners to take the victory.
Jonathon Grabara led the Blue Raiders with a 4-under 138 for the two days, to finish in fourth-place for the event. Federico Navarro finished tied for fifth with a 2-under par 140. Grabara and Navarro both earned All-Tournament Team honors.
Chris Butler led all players with 26 total pars for the tournament while Kellen Wilson posted the best score on the par-5s throughout the weekend, finishing at 8-under.
Sean Elliott of Dalton State won the tournament as an individual after beating Charlie Phillips of Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff. Elliott and Phillips both finished with 10-under par 132s, as they also earned All-Tournament honors.
Ludvig Forssman of Union (Ky.), Tyler Harrod of Campbellsville (Ky.) and Blake Russell of Indiana Wesleyan rounded out the All-Tournament Team at the Blue Raider Classic.
No. 21 Union made a jump on the second day of the tournament to finish in third with a team score of 570 for the weekend.
The Lindsey Wilson 'B' team finished in a tie for fifth place with Millsaps (Miss.), as Clayton Bradshaw and Jordan Hagan led the way for the team as the both carded 142s, which was even par for the two rounds.
The Lindsey Wilson 'C' team finished in 14th place after shooting a 613 for the two days. The Blue Raiders improved three shots from the first day of the tournament shooting a 305 in the final round. Tanner Garmon and Chase Nunn led the 'C' team with a pair of 151s for the two rounds.
The men's golf team will be back in action next week as the travel to London, Ky., for the Bill Sergent Invitational hosted by Cumberlands (Ky.).
