Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- No. 16-ranked Lindsey Wilson fell 3-1 tonight to No. 10-ranked Union (Ky.) at the UC Soccer Complex on Cumberlands' (Ky.) campus.
The game was a makeup of Tuesday's postponement scheduled to be played at Union. Scheduling conflicts on the Union campus forced the game to be moved to the Cumberlands soccer complex tonight.
Lindsey Wilson -- who entered the game averaging 4.2 goals per outing -- struggled to find the back of the net on Wednesday. The Blue Raiders finished the match out-shooting the Bulldogs 19-11, but was stymied most of the evening by Union goalkeeper Marcelo Mercuri. He closed the game with five saves.
Aleksi Pahkasalo's goal in the 88th minute prevented the Union clean sheet. Pahkasalo -- who has a team-high 14 goals -- has scored in four straight games. He has scored at least one goal in all but one match this season for the Blue Raiders (6-4-1).
Union's Justin Wilkinson scored an unassisted goal in the seventh minute of the game to give the Bulldogs (12-2-1) the early 1-0 lead. Union held that goal advantage into the half.
Louis Nuttal and Edwin Garcia added goals in the 67th and 81st minutes to extend the lead to 3-0 ahead of the lone Lindsey Wilson goal.
Alvaro Cortazar finished the game for the Blue Raiders with three saves while allowing all three Union goals.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 14, as the Blue Raiders host Georgetown (Ky.) in a Mid-South Conference tilt at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
