COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team defeated No.17-ranked in NAIA Division II Washington Adventist (Md.) 67-65 on day two of the Lindsey Wilson Christmas Classic Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.
Charles Sutton led the Blue Raiders (11-5) with a game-high 20 points. Allen Costley chipped in with 12 points and Dmitry Utolin recorded his first double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Lindsey Wilson limited the Shock (12-1) to just 37.1 percent shooting from the field.
The Blue Raiders jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the beginning of the first half. The two teams traded baskets until Washington Adventist went on an 8-0 run to take a 15-12 lead. Lindsey Wilson cut the lead to 17-16 before the Shock went on a 7-0 run. The Blue Raiders trailed 43-31 at the half as Washington Adventist shot 51.6 percent from the field in the half and 6-of-7 from three.
The Blue Raiders limited the Shock to just 22 second half points and 22.6 percent from the field and 2-of-10 beyond the arc. Lindsey Wilson went on an 8-0 run to cut the Washington Adventist lead to 48-45. From the 6:51 mark in the second half until 32 seconds left the Blue Raiders scored 13 of the next 14 points.
Charles Vines led the Shock with 15 points shooting 5-of-6 from three and Tyrus Fleetwood chipped in with 13.
Lindsey Wilson is back in action on Jan.3 against Brescia (Ky.) at Biggers Sports Center at 6 p.m. CT.
