Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. — Charles Sutton scored a career-high 29 points and Lindsey Wilson men's basketball pulled off a thrilling 56-55 come-from-behind victory over Ohio Christian inside Biggers Sports Center on Thursday night.
The Blue Raiders (14-8) led for the majority of the second half, including by double digits at 39-29 with 15:31 to play, but the Trailblazers (18-7) slowly began to claw their way back before eventually taking a 50-49 with 4:20 to go. Ohio Christian pushed their lead to four points with 40 seconds to go following over a five-minute scoring drought by Lindsey Wilson.
After a Blue Raider turnover, Sutton stole a Trailblazer pass and dished the ball to Bryan Wallace who was fouled and went to the line to shoot two. Wallace hit the first of two free throws, but missed the second. However, on the ensuing rebound, DJ Lambert grabbed his fifth board of the night to keep the possession alive.
After a Lindsey Wilson timeout, Sutton made a three-point shot to tie the game at 55-55 with 17 seconds remaining. Wallace stole the ensuing inbounds pass and after a missed Blue Raider shot attempt, Lambert collected the loose ball and was fouled. He then went to the charity stripe for a one-and-one where he made one-of-two to give Lindsey Wilson the 56-55 lead that it would not relinquish.
Lindsey Wilson, which was not in foul trouble, used its fouls to prevent the Trailblazers from getting an open shot attempt at the end of the game. As regulation was expiring, Marquis Jackson, who led Ohio Christian with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-8 from behind the three-point arc, heaved a contested three-point shot attempt as he was fading away that fell short and landed harmlessly out of bounds as time expired.
The Blue Raiders' offense was led by Sutton, who connected on 11-of-16 shot attempts, including 4-of-5 from behind the three-point arc. He also collected five rebounds, including three offensive rebounds, three steals, and tied a career-high with three blocks. Sutton's 29 points are the highest by a Blue Raider this season. Dmitry Utolin scored 10 points on 5-of-12 shooting as he was the lone other Blue Raider in double figures.
The Lindsey Wilson defense forced the Trailblazers (18-7), who came into the game with an assist/turnover ratio of 1.48, to commit 15 turnovers while holding them to seven assists.
Lindsey Wilson and Ohio Christian played a tightly contested first half with four ties and six lead changes. Ohio Christian attained the largest lead of the half when it jumped up 14-7 with 14:01 left in the period. Behind a strong defensive effort, Lindsey Wilson went on a 10-3 run to tie the game at 17-17. The Blue Raiders later pulled ahead for their largest lead of the half at 26-21 with under 5 minutes to play. Lindsey Wilson held onto a 29-27 advantage at the end of the period.
Sutton scored 17 of his points before the intermission.
The Blue Raiders improved to 10-1 on the season at Biggers Sports Center.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action with a Mid-South Conference game at Life (Ga.) on Saturday.
