Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) won the final two singles matches on Saturday to secure a 5-4 win over host Bellarmine (Ky.) at Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
Javier Raya and Tomas Depiaggio each won their match to help the Blue Raiders complete a comeback win in the season-opening match. The win is the first for first-year head coach Marlon Dal Pont.
Bellarmine seized a 4-3 lead after Alonso Tellez was forced to retire with an injury.
Raya quickly evened the overall match at four wins each with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Joe Simon in the sixth-seeded match. Depiaggio scored the decisive point for the Blue Raiders (1-0) with an identical 6-2, 6-0 result over Alex Swords in the fifth-seeded match.
The wins were the first of Raya and Depiaggio's Lindsey Wilson career.
Denis Porcic -- at the top-seeded singles match -- and Ignacio Huertas also claimed singles wins on Saturday.
Porcic -- ranked 30th in the NAIA in men's singles -- needed a 10-6 superset win to take home a point. Huertas cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Matthew Momper in the third-seeded match.
Bellarmine (0-2) started the match strong, winning two of the three doubles matches.
Jose Legarreta and Zachary Kuo gave the Knights a 1-0 lead edging Porcic and Raul Mendez 8-6 in the top doubles match. Huertas and Tellez evened the match with an 8-4 win over Swords and Nathan Walroth. Bellarmine captured the final doubles point as Momper and Lauren de Boeck beat the tandem of Raya and Depiaggio 8-5.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 8 a.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 12, as the Blue Raiders travel to Eastern Kentucky in Richmond, Ky.
