Men's Soccer defeats Cumberlands 7-0 on Senior Night

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 11-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team defeated Cumberlands (Ky.) 7-0 on Friday night at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

The Blue Raiders (10-2-0, 6-0-0 MSC) recorded 26 shots in the match and managed to put 14 of them on goal. The LWC defense held the Patriots to just two shots, none in the second half, and did not allow a shot on goal in the match.

Cumberlands falls to 7-6-3 overall and 3-3-0 in MSC play with the loss.

Dioulde Niane and Andres Riquelme each recorded two goals in the contest. Riquelme got the scoring started in the 12th minute when he has able to head a corner kick from Mutaya Mwape past Cumberlands goalkeeper Ivan Martin.

Later in the half, Tyler Collishaw was able to back-heel flick a pass from Niane from just outside the 18-yard box to Franck Bikoya, who then buried a 14-yard shot just inside the left post.

With just 22 seconds left in the half, Lindsey Wilson was able to add to their lead. Riquelme smashed a ball to the upper left corner of the goal from 20-yards out on a pass from Niane to make it 3-0.

Lindsey Wilson outshot Cumberlands 5-2 in the first half and 3-0 in shots on goal.

The second half was all Lindsey Wilson as the Blue Raiders held the Patriots to zero shots in the half and LWC recorded 21 shots, 11 on goal, and scored four goals.

In the 55th minute, Niane intercepted a Cumberlands defender pass attempt and scored on a 25-yard strike.

One minute later, Niane again found the back of the net when a ball deflected off a Patriot defender to him just outside the 18-yard box where he blasted a shot past the Cumberlands goalkeeper to make it 5-0.

Renan Ramas scored in the 59th minute after a scramble in front of the net. The ball found its way to Ramos, who fired it in from 15 yards out for the score after the shot took a slight deflection off a defender before reaching the net.

The final goal of the night came as David Ibrahimkadic found Riquelme, who then touched the ball back to Ibrahimkadic who finished into the goal for his first-career collegiate goal.

The Blue Raiders finished the match with seven corner kicks compared to just one by the Patriots.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action on the road against No. 14 Campbellsville (Ky.) on October 25.
