Men's Soccer advances to MSC Tournament Finals with 3-0 win over Campbellsville

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team defeated Campbellsville 3-0 on Thursday night during the semifinal round of the Men's Mid-South Conference Tournament.

The Blue Raiders got off to a very fast start in the match as they were able to score two goals just one minute and twenty seconds apart during the 4th and 6th minutes of action.

Nicholas Marcano and Rainer De Jesus produced the goals for Lindsey Wilson as De Jesus found the back of the goal twice. William Diaz turned in his second shutout of the tournament, in as many games, with three saves on the night.

Marcano scored the Blue Raiders first goal of the game. After firing a shot from just outside the 18-yard box, Campbellsville's goalkeeper Owen Scott blocked away the attempt. The rebound deflected back out to Marcano who was able to collect the ball and fired another shot, this time resulting in his shot crashing into the back of the goal.

Just moments later, the Blue Raiders De Jesus would increase the LWC lead to 2-0. De Jesus broke with the ball to just outside the 18-yard box before powering a shot past Campbellsville's goalkeeper towards the far post.

Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville would both manage three more shots to the 30th minute as the Blue Raiders were the only team able to place one of their shots on goal.

Across the final 15 minutes of the first half the pace of the game settled down as the two teams battled to gain possession of the ball around midfield, resulting in one shot by the Tigers. Lindsey Wilson would receive three corner kick but failed to convert on the attempts.

LWC totaled six shots in the half as they were efficient, placing four of the attempts on goal. Campbellsville would take five shots in the half but only one shot found its way on goal.

The second half started slow as they two teams battle to control the ball in their attacking thirds to generate scoring chances. Lindsey Wilson would record the half first shot during the 58th minute. Moments later Campbellsville would manage two quick shots, the first blocked away by Marcano and the next saved by LWC goalkeeper Diaz, preserving the shutout.

Lindsey Wilson's De Jesus would tally his second goal of the contest during the 87th minute when he took a free kick from the left corner of the 18-yard box, sending his shot into the upper right corner.

Campbellsville would add four more shots, one on goal, over the final 30 minutes but the Blue Raiders were able to play as a cohesive defensive unit to finish out the game, giving Lindsey Wilson the 3-0 victory.

Lindsey Wilson outshot Campbellsville 13-10 including 7-3 in shots on goal.

With the win the Blue Raiders advance to the MSC Tournament Finals where they will face Cumberland (Tenn.) at 6:30 p.m. CT in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
