Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team defeated Campbellsville 2-1 on Wednesday evening at Finley Stadium.
Bruno Henrique set up the go-ahead goal in the 88th minute when he chipped one over his defender from the endline. Akean Shackleford was on the receiving end as he managed to head one into a wide-open goal from five-yard out.
As the rain subsided just before the start of the match it wouldn't take long for LWC to strike.
Just seven minutes into the Battle of Highway 55 Rainer De Jesus would strike. Shackleford picked up the assists on the play after his pass set up De Jesus who scored from 18-yards out past a diving goalkeeper.
Lindsey Wilson would continue to push the pace in the half, controlling possession as they managed eight shots, four on goal. The LWC defense did their part as well as Campbellsville didn't record a shot across the first 45 minutes of action.
The Tigers would tally their first shot of the game during the 46th minute but David Coffey was there to shut the door.
Campbellsville's Marc Lawrence took advantage of a Lindsey Wilson defensive lapse in the 58th minute. Off an LWC turnover, Lawrence would navigate around two Blue Raiders before charging into the penalty area to finish across his body and into the lower-left corner of the goal.
Shackleford got in behind the CU defense during the 65th minute and had a foot race with charging defenders to the ball. His attempt to lay one off to his teammate was denied by a charging keeper who made a spectacular play to end the scoring threat.
Lindsey Wilson would finish the match outshooting the Tigers 16-5 including 5-2 in shots on goal despite not recording a shot on frame in the second half until Shackleford strike.
Coffey finished with three saves for the match.
The Blue Raiders enter the postseason on Nov. 9 for their next contest with the start of the MSC Tournament in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
