Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson men's basketball erased a 17-point second-half deficit but ultimately fell 80-79 tonight to No. 14-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) at O. Wayne Rollins Center.
Trailing 62-45 with nine minutes left in regulation, the Blue Raiders (17-13, 6-10 in the Mid-South Conference) fought all the way back to take a 79-78 lead with 3.3 seconds left.
Following a timeout with 2.3 seconds remaining -- once the Patriots got the ball to midcourt --Cumberlands lobbed a pass into the post to Jahi Hinson who was fouled. Hinson -- who finished with 17 points -- made both free throws to give Cumberlands an 80-79 lead.
Matthew Eldridge's half-court heave at the buzzer was off the mark giving the Patriots the win.
Lindsey Wilson shot 52.9 percent (18-of-34) from the floor in the second half to aid in the comeback after shooting just 36 percent in the first half. The Blue Raiders trailed 39-28 at the half.
Lindsey Wilson -- who leads the MSC averaging nearly 11 3-pointers per game -- was held to just two threes in the opening 20 minutes. The second half proved to be a different story as the Blue Raiders hit 8-of-18 from beyond the arc to climb back.
Reece Brooks led the way with a game-high 27 points, including hitting the go-ahead 3-pointer from over 30-feet away to give the Blue Raiders the momentary lead. Kameron Mack added 15 points while Eldridge and Kel Stotts each produced 11.
Tevin Olison led the Patriots with 18 points.
Cumberlands (23-6, 12-3) used foul shooting and Lindsey Wilson turnovers to escape with the victory. The Patriots -- who entered the game seventh in the MSC in free throw shooting (67.1 percent) -- made 21-of-25 freebies while scoring 18 points off 13 Lindsey Wilson turnovers.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Saturday, March 7, as the Blue Raiders play in the MSC Tournament Quarterfinals in Bowling Green, Ky. The tournament bracket will be announced on Saturday night.
