Box Score LEBANON, Tenn. -- Lindsey Wilson men's basketball struggled offensively tonight in a 67-55 loss to host Cumberland (Tenn.) at the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena.
The Blue Raiders (3-6, 1-5 in the Mid-South Conference) finished the night shooting just 36.5 percent (23-of-63) from the field, including making just 3-of-20 from beyond the 3-point arc. Lindsey Wilson also committed 16 turnovers in the setback.
Despite their offensive struggles the Blue Raiders overcame a halftime deficit to build a 38-33 lead -- its biggest of the game -- with just over 17 minutes remaining in regulation. The lead evaporated over the next seven minutes as Lindsey Wilson went scoreless allowing the Phoenix (5-3, 4-2 MSC) to take a 44-38 lead midway through the second frame.
Cumberland ultimately extended its lead to as many as 14 points (58-44) before the Blue Raiders made one final push.
Ryan Friday scored five of his season-high 15 points during a 9-2 spurt late in the game to cut the deficit to seven points. The Phoenix iced the game over the final two minutes at the free throw line en route to the win. Cumberland connected on 21-of-24 freebies during the game, including 16-of-18 in the second half.
While the offense struggled, the Lindsey Wilson defense held the Phoenix to 11 points below their season average and just 37.5 percent (21-of-56) shooting for the game.
Friday added 11 rebounds in the game for his first double-double of the season. Elijah Jordan added 13 points and Colen Gaynor chipped in 10 points in the loss.
Aaron Ridley and Tyler Byrd combined for 43 points to lead Cumberland.
Lindsey Wilson is scheduled to return to action at 5:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, Jan. 7, as the Blue Raiders travel to Martin Methodist (Tenn.) in Pulaski, Tennessee.
