Men's Golf Finishes Sixth; Gruhn Runner-Up at NAIA Memphis Shootout

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson men's golf team climbed the leaderboard one spot during the final round to finish sixth at the NAIA Memphis Shootout. The Blue Raiders dug themselves a hole after the first round – sitting in 12th place – but rallied across the final two rounds to move up six spots.

Emil Gruhn came into the final round as the leader but slid one spot to second after a seven-over-par final round. He carded a 223 (78-68-77) for the tournament as his second round of four-under-par tied for the low 18-hole score.

Gruhn dominated the par-5's on the week, finishing with a tournament-best 4.5 scoring average on par-5's to go along with a 4.17 mark on par-4's. He played the par-5's at six-under-par for the championship.

Lindsey Wilson finished the tournament with a 924 (327-299-298). Marian (Ind.) won the event with a 904 (322-291-291) as Jay Williams -- also of Marian -- won the individual title by five strokes following a 217 (79-68-70).

Callum Burns finished in a tie for 10th place following a 228 (80-76-72) as Janik Hawlitzky tied for 27th with a 233 (85-78-70). Etienne Rensburg finished in 77th place with a 249 (84-79-86) as Sebastian Sandin finished just behind in 81st with a 250 (94-77-79).

As a team, the Blue Raiders managed a 4.9 scoring average for a six-under-par mark on the par-5's. It was the best average in the field as their 4.4 mark on the par-4's was the fourth-best. They finished with a tournament-high three eagles to go along with the second-most birdies with 32.

In total, 19 teams competed at the event with an individual field of 103 student-athletes. The NAIA Memphis Shootout was held at TPC Southwind, a par-72, 6,716-yard design.

Lindsey Wilson returns to the course on Oct. 18-19 when they compete at the AAC Fall Championship. The event will be played at Bowling Green Country Club.
