WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team remained undefeated in conference play after defeating the No. 24-ranked Cumberlands Patriots 4-0 away from home this afternoon.

Lindsey Wilson (5-1-1, 4-0 MSC) outshot the Patriots (2-4-3, 1-2-1 MSC) 22-3 with an 8-2 shot on goal mark. Amin Fernouchi and Julien Gastaldy picked up their first goals of the season with Nathaniel Onyina Opoku scoring his sixth goal of the season. Alexander Koziolek picked up his fifth assist of the year while Anouar Adam picked up his first assist of the season in the victory.

The Blue Raiders had more opportunities to open the scoring in the opening half outshooting the Patriots 9-2, but the story of the first half was the fouls for both teams. In a heated contest between two ranked opponents, Lindsey Wilson committed eight fouls to Cumberlands' four. The Patriots got the ultimate punishment in the 30th minute however as Hrannar Magnusson was sent off after colliding with David Coffey inside the box, resulting in the goalkeeper having to leave the match.

With the Patriots down to 10 men for the remainder of the match, the Blue Raiders immediately jumped into the attack as only minutes later Fernouchi picked up his first goal of the season, putting away a header from a corner kick. Koziolek, who took the corner, picks up his fifth assist of the season, a career-high for the senior to lead 1-0 at the half.

Into the second half, the Blue Raiders continued to mount offensive pressure on the Patriots creating numerous shooting opportunities. Gastaldy doubled the advantage in the 64th minute after pulling down a cross out of the air and hit the shot, deflecting off a defender into the air and over the head of the Patriots goalkeeper for the 2-0 lead.

Gastaldy wasn't done scoring however as minutes later he collected the ball outside the box, cut into the middle of the field, shifted the ball to his right foot, and curled it past a diving Nathan Hart who could do nothing to stop it making it 3-0.

Opoku, who saw Gastaldy's earlier goal, went for the same in the 73rd minute, scoring the fourth goal of the match and his sixth of the season. Adam picked up his first assist of the season, as his pass to Opoku set up the scoring opportunity.

Lindsey Wilson concludes their three-game road trip next week with a visit to Thomas More (Ky.) on Wednesday, October 6th. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.
