Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team played to a 0-0 two overtime draw against Cumberlands (Ky.) in their home opener on Tuesday evening at Blue Raider Stadium.
The Patriots (1-4-2, 1-1-1 MSC) outshot LWC 19-14 including 4-2 in shots on goal. Lindsey Wilson (1-1-1, 1-0-1 MSC) managed to record one more corner kick at 7-6 than their counterparts but neither team was able to find the back of the goal.
The opening half was an even affair with both squads producing a few scoring chances. Cumberlands outshot the Blue Raiders 9-3 in the opening 45 but the LWC held a 1-0 advantage in shots on goal.
Lindsey Wilson's best opportunity of the match came during the 79th minute when they registered two-point blank shots from just over eight-yards out. Rainer De Jesus registered the first but it was blocked away by Ricardo Lopes de Matos. That attempt found the foot of David Ibramkadic whose shot was again just blocked, this time by Gabriel Figurski before being smothered by goalkeeper Akililu Zambataro.
Cumberlands controlled play in most of the overtime period as the Blue Raiders picked up a red card early in the action resulting in them having to play down a man. The Patriots and the Blue Raiders each tallied three shots with Cumberlands landing the lone shot on goal in the extra periods.
The Blue Raiders return to action on Feb. 28th when they travel to Shawnee State (Ohio) to take on the Bears at 2 p.m. CT.
