Volleyball Defeated in Highway 55 Battle

| Box Score 2

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – At Gosser Gymnasium, the homestanding Tigers utilized fast starts and tough defense to defeat the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team in a three-set decision.

Campbellsville limited the Blue Raiders to less than 10 kills in each of the first two sets, then, despite a tighter score, pulled away in the third to secure the win.

Elisa Burzio led the visitor's offense with seven kills, while Monika Szwarc tallied 11 assists and Ola Wyrzykowska finished with 10 digs.

The Tigers raced out the gate in the first frame to an 8-1 lead. A kill from Savanah Pippin followed by an ace from Alessia Bergesio sparked a small Lindsey Wilson run to pull the Blue Raiders to within three points, down 8-5. Campbellsville was swift to counter, however, and turned the momentum back around with a 14-5 stretch to take a 22-10 lead. Successful attacks by Lindamara Conceicao and Burio helped make up a late Blue Raider rally, but the Tigers got the last move with the final three points of the set to win it 25-17.

In the second, miscues by the hosts kept Lindsey Wilson in contention early and drew the score level at 3-3. Campbellsville, though, found the breathing room it needed to open things up, in spite of the attacking efforts of Elizabeth Moore and Rachele Tessari. The Tigers led 16-10 before a series of service aces sent them off on a 9-2, set-clinching run.

Lindsey Wilson put forth its strongest fight in the third in the hopes of extending the match. After falling behind 3-1 to start, a Campbellsville service error and a kill by Moore pushed the Blue Raiders on a 5-0 swing to earn them their largest lead of the evening. The Tigers remained on guard, nevertheless, and responded to everything the visitors threw at them. Lindsey Wilson, again, surged ahead by three to go up 19-16. That's when the energy in the building shifted back to the home side to see them score nine of the set's last ten points.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Tuesday, October 24 for their final road match of the regular season when they travel to Cumberland (Tenn.) to take on the Phoenix at 7 p.m. CST.
