Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Blue Raider volleyball team extended its non-conference home win streak to 47 matches on Thursday evening, defeating Asbury (Ky.) in straight sets for its second consecutive sweep.
Lindsey Wilson hit .368 percent for the match, recording no more than three attack errors in any set. At the apex of the host's offense were Lindamara Conceicao and Elisa Burzio with 10 and nine kills, respectively, while Monika Szwarc dished out a career-best 29 assists and added nine digs and three blocks.
The home side set the tone early in the first set and raced out to a 7-0 lead before an Asbury timeout. Out of the break, the Eagles began trimming into the deficit with a 5-2 run, but the Blue Raiders swiftly retook control on an Asbury service error and a kill from Burzio. Five attacking faults by the visitors aiding Lindsey Wilson to a double-digit lead, and a kill by Conceicao followed by a service ace from Natalie Ackermann clinched the opening set for the Blue Raiders, 25-13.
Asbury peaked in front 3-1 to start the middle frame, and every time Lindsey Wilson responded, the Eagles were there to counter, eventually going ahead 16-13. A successful strike by Burzio then sparked a momentum-swinging 6-0 rally for the home side. Now in front 19-16, Lindsey Wilson carried its newly found energy forward to a 25-19 set win.
Scoring went back and forth in the initial stages of the third set. One and two-point leads were vanishing in an instant to where neither side could build any breathing room. Knotted at 12-12, a kill by Savanah Pippin gave Lindsey Wilson the boost it needed to score five of the next six points and ultimately keep the Eagles in its rearview mirror.
Along with Szwarc's defensive efforts, Ola Wyrzykowska contributed eight digs and Pippin finished with six total blocks.
With Thursday evening's match marking the end of the Blue Raiders' nonconference schedule, it's all Mid-South action from here on out. Lindsey Wilson returns to Biggers Center at 6 p.m. CST on Monday, October 30 to host Cumberlands (Ky.).
