Box Score Williamsburg, KY - In a match that had a bit of everything, Lindsey Wilson drew 3-3 against #18 Cumberlands. The Blue Raiders conclude their regular season as champions for the 15th time in program history with a 11-2-3 overall record and a 4-0-2 in conference.
Lindsey Wilson recorded 14 shots, 6 of them were on target. Alvaro Verwey, Sadam Masereka, and Jaland Larmond were the goal scorers of the evening.
The first half saw the Blue Raiders in control and playing comfortably as they outshot the Patriots 7 to 3. Verwey opened the scoresheet with a goal in the 35th minute, assisted by Sebastian Tregarthen.
The second half started in a similar manner, as Lindsey Wilson pushed to extend their lead immediately. They got what they were looking for as Sadam Masereka found the net in the 47th minute from an assist by Monwabisi Mngqibisa.
In the 53rd minute, a handball from one of the Blue Raider players, meant that Cumberlands had a chance to score their first of the game. Goalkeeper Pablo Costa was forced to step up for the first time in the game. He delivered as he made a remarkable save diving to palm the ball away from goal.
The Patriots got two back-to-back goals in the 73rd and 74th minute to equalize the game. Lindsey Wilson responded quickly with a goal by Jaland Larmond 3 minutes later.
Cumberlands did not give up and did not want to leave empty handed, and were able to tie the game in the 88th minute from a corner kick.
The Blue Raiders will be the top seed in the MSC Men's Soccer Tournament and will host the Tournament Semifinals on November 8 and the Tournament Final on Nov. 10.
