Women’s Basketball Opens Bethel Classic With 78-53 Victory over Harris-Stowe State

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Harris-Stowe State 78-53 on day one of the Bethel Classic Friday at Crisp Arena.

The Blue Raiders (9-2) have now won their last five games. Lindsey Wilson shot 50.9 percent from the field while limiting the Hornets (2-4) to just 37.8 percent. This marks the fourth time this season that the Blue Raiders have shot 50 percent or better from the field. Lindsey Wilson also connected on 21-of-26 attempts from the charity stripe.

Amelia Hodges scored a season-high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting. The 75 percent from the field matched a season-high for Hodges. Lucy Patterson added 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting while Jarie Thomas was also in double figures with 10 points.

Harris-Stowe scored the first points of the game and then the Blue Raiders scored the next eight points. Lindsey Wilson remained in the lead for the rest of the quarter leading by as much as eight at 21-13 with 1:10 to play. The Blue Raiders led 21-15 after the first shooting 56.3 percent from the field.

Following a pair of Blue Raider free throws, the Hornets went on a 5-2 run to trim the Lindsey Wilson lead to 25-20 with 8:45 to play in the half. After a Harris-Stowe layup made it 30-24, the Blue Raiders went on a 15-0 run that spanned just over four minutes to lead 45-24 with 2:22 left in the half. The Hornets scored the last five points of the half to trim the Blue Raider lead to 45-29. Hodges scored 14 points in the second quarter connecting on all six of her shots from the field.

Lindsey Wilson got off to a fast start in the second half beginning the third quarter on a 12-3 run to lead 57-32. The Hornets closed out the third quarter by scoring eight of the final 12 points to trim the Blue Raider lead to 61-40.

Following a Hornets three to begin the fourth quarter, the Blue Raiders went on a 10-2 run to lead 71-45 with 5:26 to play. The two teams then exchanged points for the remainder of the quarter as Lindsey Wilson got the 78-53 victory. Lindsey Wilson shot 75 percent from the field in the final 10 minutes.
 
The Blue Raiders close out the Bethel Classic at Noon CT on Saturday when they face Bellevue (Neb.).
