MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Lindsey Wilson men's golf team picked up its sixth consecutive tournament victory of the 2022-23 season on Tuesday afternoon, finishing atop a field of 11 in the Showdown at Legends at the Legends Resort in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The Blue Raiders closed out their three rounds of competition on the par-72 course with a final score of 879 (293-291-295), besting Marian University (Ind.) by 11 strokes.
Sebastian Sandin paced the locals on the individual leaderboard. The junior's round-by-round score improved by two strokes each pass-through, and he ended the week shooting three-over par (75-73-71) and the lowest of any Blue Raider on par threes.
Ivan Ninkovic fell in at fifth place after posting a tournament-low second-round score of 68 (-4) and a closing third-round score of 75 (+3). Ninkovic carded 11 birdies altogether and only registered one shot over par during his impressive middle round.
Janik Hawlitzky (72-74-76) and Callum Waugh (73-76-73) each ended up tied for sixth when the day wrapped up. The duo posted tournament-best scores of seven-under and six-under, respectively, on par fives.
Rio Saigal was the last Blue Raider golfer contributing to the team score. He finished tied for 37th with a final mark of 237 (73-85-79) and eight total birdies.
Competing as individuals, Frederik Strand (+8), Linus Doverfors (+10), and Alfie Yearsley (+11) each garnered top 20 placements, while Shane Henderson, who holed one of only four eagles in the tournament, finished tied for 50th.
Briley Sharpe (T-55th; 84-80-83), Evan Kidd (63rd; 85-78-89), Adam Rogers (72nd; 91-90-92), Jarrett Napier (74th; 99-97-109), and Chase Carpenter (75th; 110-108-99) rounded out the Lindsey Wilson golfers participating as individuals.
The Blue Raiders return to the greens on March 13-14 when they travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi for the Carey Collegiate at Canebrake Country Club.
