WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – At James H. Taylor, II Stadium, three Blue Raiders claimed individual titles while 25 total student-athletes earned all-conference status at the 2023 Mid-South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
All told, the Lindsey Wilson men placed third overall and the women finished fourth, matching their result from a season ago. Meanwhile, the men extend their streak of top-three finishes to 12 consecutive years.
Nikki Ravelli shined in her outdoor championship debut, winning top honors in both the javelin and the long jump. Her effort of 5.88 meters in the latter of the two events met an NAIA "A"-standard and helped her become the conference's Freshman of the Year on the women's side. She becomes the first in program history since Leia Gregory in 2018 to collect that accolade. Ravelli also picked up all-conference honors with a third-place finish in the high jump.
Meredith Johnson crossed the line first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to win her second-straight Mid-South title and third consecutive all-conference nod in the event. This season, the Russellville, Kentucky native cracked an NAIA "A"-standard with a time of 11:12.04.
On the men's side, Austin Campbell tossed a "B"-standard distance of 47.72 meters to emerge victorious for the first time in the discus. It is his second consecutive All-Mid-South finish in the event and eighth overall for his career after he also earned a top-three placement in the hammer throw (2nd, 48.38 meters) and shot put (3rd, 15.21 meters).
Elsewhere in the field for the locals, Justin Borden turned in a pair of second-place marks in the high jump (2.00 meters) and long jump (6.98 meters). The junior is now a three-time all-conference recipient in the high jump. His teammate Robert Dyer (3rd, 6.58 meters) fell close behind in the long jump, LeAndrea Bolen snatched second place (46.53 meters) in the discus, and Brandon Fields finished third (46.41 meters) in the hammer throw.
Sprinters Edwin Van Wyk and Jozlen Brisbon each garnered runner-up placements in the 200-meter dash (21.69) and 100-meter dash (12.11), respectively, while Eliza Hagens collected second-team honors in the 5,000-meter race walk (30:53.84).
Five different relays secured third-team All-Mid-South distinction, including the men's 4x100-meter of Kelvion Wilson, Luke Birdsong, Van Wyk and Borden, the men's 4x400-meter team of Jelle Golbach, David Requejo, K'Ron Sherald, and Van Wyk, the men's 4x800 grouping of Logan Bullock, Justin Stearns, Marcus Abel, and Nolan Foushee, the women's 4x100 foursome of Jordan Nelson, Kyra Engel, Luna Senica, and Brisbon, and the women's 4x400 squad of Brisbon, Engel, Johnson, and Senica.
Foushee (1,500-meter race, 3:57.81), Stearns (3,000-meter steeplechase), and David Johns (400-meter hurdles, 56.36) also earned third-team honors as individuals.
Lindsey Wilson will now begin preparations for the 2023 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, which are currently scheduled for May 24-26 in Marion, Indiana at Indiana Wesleyan University.
