Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team opened the 2023 season with a 3-0 victory over Kentucky Christian Tuesday at Biggers Sports Center.
The Blue Raiders (1-0) limited the Knights (0-1) to a .129 hitting percentage in the match. Lindsey Wilson tallied 11 total blocks in the match.Aleksandra Wyrzykowska led Lindsey Wilson with a match-high 10 kills while Savannah Pippin added nine. Monika Szwarc tallied a match-high 20 assists and Luiza Goncalves added 10.
Lindsey Wilson got off to a strong start in the first set scoring five of the first six points. Leading 9-5, the Blue Raiders took control of the set going on an 11-2 run to lead 20-7. Lindsey Wilson scored three of set's final five points to win the set 25-11. The Blue Raiders hit a match-high .520 in the set.
The second set was back-and-forth as no team led by more than two for the first 10 points. Lindsey Wilson got out to a 9-5 lead before the Knights scored five of the next seven points to make it 11-10. The Blue Raiders answered back scoring the next five points to increase their lead to 16-10. Kentucky Christian scored five of the next six points to trim the Blue Raiders lead to 17-15. The two teams traded points as the Blue Raiders took the second set 25-22.
With the third set tied at four, the Knights scored five of the next six points to lead 9-5. Trailing 11-7, Lindsey Wilson went on a 7-3 run to tie the set at 14. The Blue Raiders then scored the next eight points to lead 22-14. Kentucky Christian answered with a 7-1 run to trim the Lindsey Wilson lead to 23-21. The Raiders secured the victory by scoring the final two points of the set.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Friday when they travel to Marietta, Georgia for the Running Eagle Classic. Lindsey Wilson plays Life (Ga.) at Noon CT and Point (Ga.) at 2 p.m. CT.
