Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – At Biggers Sports Center, the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team returned home in style with a three-set sweep of Boyce College.
The Blue Raiders hit over .300 in both the first and the second sets to open a commanding lead and ultimately held off a furious Bulldog rally to seal the win in straight sets.
Sophomore Aleksandra Wyrzykowska lit up the opposing defense with a team-high nine kills, followed by six apiece from Madison Bidwell and Elizabeth Moore.
Defensively, Wiktoria Stankiewicz and Natalie Ackermann each dug out nine, while Lindamara Conceicao and Moore both contributed four total blocks.
From the opening serve, both sides shared turns adding to the score, with a kill from Elisa Burzio sneaking Lindsey Wilson in front, 5-4. From there, the home side pieced together a 12-4 run to increase their lead and eventually go up by 10 points. Successful attacks by Laura Milori and Natalie Wandrie helped the Blue Raiders find the end of the first set, taking the frame 25-15.
The Bulldogs crept ahead 4-1 to begin the middle set, but consecutive attack errors quickly turned the tables and allowed Lindsey Wilson to go on an 11-3 run, including a stretch of seven straight points with Rachele Tessari leading from the service line. Later on in the set, a span of seven Blue Raider points featured five kills off the arm of Wyrzkowska, and a middle-hit strike from Moore gave the hosts a 20-13 advantage. Boyce found momentum in the closing moments of the second, pulling within four of the Blue Raiders' lead but nothing closer.
That spark by the Bulldogs carried over into the final set, as neither team was able to build any breathing room until the score stood at 11-11. Another kill from Moore sent Lindsey Wilson on a 10-3 swing, though Boyce did not fold that easily. Trailing 20-14, the Bulldogs muscled their way into a 23-23 tie, forcing the Blue Raiders to use their only timeout of the match. After the break, a block assist by Bidwell and Moore complimented by a kill from the latter of the two ended the visitor's hopes of extending the night.
Lindsey Wilson is back at home to host Brescia University on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. CST.
