Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team (7-2-1, 1-0) opened Mid-South Conference play on Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.).
The Blue Raiders put up a strong offensive effort, with nine shots and three goals. Goals were scored by Monwabisi Mngqibisa, Alvaro Verway, and Fabio De Paula, and assists were made by Felix Poschmann and De Paula. In goal, Pablo Costa acquired his fourth shutout of the year, making two saves for the Blue Raiders throughout the match.
In the first half, Lindsey Wilson outshot the Lions 5-4, netting two of their goals during this half. Mngqibisa started off the scoring early in the first half, finding the back of the net in the 8th minute, followed by Verway, who scored his third of the season on a penalty kick in the 25th minute. The Blue Raiders continued to maintain control of the game during the second half, outshooting Freed-Hardeman 4-2 and netting their third goal. Poschmann's goal in the 61st minute marked his first of the season. Both teams were even in yellow cards at four each.
Conference play for the Blue Raiders continues, with their next match set for Wednesday, October 4th against Bethel (Tenn.). The match will be played at Walter S. Reuling Stadium - Ray Wells Field with kickoff at 7 p.m. CST. The game will be broadcasted live on the Lindsey Wilson Sports Network.
