Box Score 2 HENDERSON, Tenn. – At Brewer Sports Center, the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team got back on track, ending a three-match skid with a straight-set decision over Freed-Hardeman.
The Blue Raiders utilized an all-around offensive effort, as 11 different athletes contributed kills for the team's .202 hitting percentage. Sophomore Ola Wyrzykowska finished at the head of the attacking leaderboard, and in the process recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs.
Defensively, Natalie Ackermann received a team-high 11 digs, while as a whole, Lindsey Wilson totaled five blocks, including four solos from four different players.
Successful attacks from Elisa Burzio and Elizabeth Moore, plus a service ace by Luiza Goncalves sent the Blue Raiders off and running with a 3-0 lead to the first set. The Lions were swift to counter, however, piecing together a 9-4 swing to go in front, 9-7. From there, the two sides swapped leads until another ace from Goncalves opened up a 3-0 run for Lindsey Wilson to give the visitors a 16-12 advantage that ultimately held through the end of the set.
The Blue Raiders struck hard in the initial stages of the second frame, with kills from Burzio, Wyrzykowska, and Madison Bidwell helping Lindsey Wilson to an early 8-3 lead. Despite a push by the hosts to make things interesting down the stretch, Savanah Pippin sealed the deal with a vigorous spike to give Lindsey Wilson a 25-23 set win.
Scoring was back-and-forth to begin the third frame, and eventually, the Lions found themselves ahead 13-12, but the lead was short-lived. Another kill from Pippin followed by contributions from Rachele Tessari ignited a 7-1 rally to sit Lindsey Wilson in the driver's seat, up 19-14. Freed-Hardeman, again, applied late pressure to trim into the Blue Raiders' lead, but the blue and white held their ground to complete the sweep.
Lindsey Wilson returns to Columbia for its next contest. The Blue Raiders will host Cumberland (Tenn.) on Friday, October 6 at 7 p.m. CST.
