COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson football team defeated No. 25 Campbellsville (Ky.) 16-10 in the Battle of Highway 55 Saturday at Parnell Family Stadium.
With the victory, the Blue Raiders (4-2, 2-1 Mid-South Conference) have won nine straight over the Tigers (6-1, 1-1 MSC).
The Lindsey Wilson defense recorded four takeaways with three interceptions. This marks the second time this season that the Blue Raider defense forced four turnovers and had three interceptions. Lindsey Wilson had 245 yards of offense with 214 coming through the air.
With 12 minutes to play and the game tied at 10, the Blue Raiders took over at their own 13 after
Dominic Myles intercepted the Jagger Gillis pass. Lindsey Wilson put together a 12-play, 87-yard drive capped off by a
David Gardner Jr. touchdown run from nine-yards out. The extra point was no good giving the Blue Raiders a 16-10 lead with 6:32 to play.
Campbellsville faced a 4th and one early in the drive and converted on a quarterback sneak. Two plays later, the Tigers moved the ball to the Blue Raiders' 28. Just a couple plays later, a Blue Raider pass interference gave Campbellsville a first down at the Lindsey Wilson 19. Facing a 4th and 15 after a
Ronald Carr sack, Gillis connected with Andre Siler for 16 yards to the Blue Raider eight. With 30 seconds left, Gillis connected with Luke Sheperson. As Sheperson looked to be going into the endzone, Carr forced a fumble at the one-yard line and recovered it securing the win for the Blue Raiders.
The game started with three punts between the two teams. On Campbellsville's second drive, Jagger Gillis' pass was intercepted by
Cameron Rankins. Lindsey Wilson capitalized on the turnover getting three points on a
Harris Nichols 25-yard field goal.
Campbellsville got on the board in the second quarter when Gillis found Jack Busey for seven yards to take a 7-3 with 7:00 minutes to play in the first half. The Blue Raiders answered on the next drive with a 46-yard touchdown pass from
Pryor Lamb to
Taborie Reed go back in front 10-7 with 5:32 left in the half. Campbellsville ended the half with a 12-play, 68-yard drive and kicked a field goal going into the half to tie the game at 10.
On the Tigers's second drive of the third quarter,
Chevis Elliott intercepted a pass giving Lindsey Wilson the ball on its own 22. The Blue Raiders were unable to capitalize on the turnover as they missed a 43-yard field goal.
Lamb completed 19 of his 32 passes for 214 yards and one touchdown. Reed was the Blue Raiders' leading receiver with five catches for 88 yards.
Seth Phillips caught four passes for 46 yards. Defensively, Rankins recorded a game-high 12 tackles while recording two tackles for loss and a sack. Carr had 1.5 sacks while
Braden Ford added 1.5 tackles for loss.
The Blue Raiders head into a bye next week and are back in action on Nov. 2 when they travel to Lebanon, Tennessee to take on Cumberland (Tenn.) for a 1:30 p.m. CT kick.
