102824 VB Cumberlands Preview

Senior Day Showdown Up Next for Volleyball on Tuesday

10/28/2024 2:30:00 PM

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The final week of the regular season has arrived for the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team, and it begins with a heavyweight Mid-South showdown against (RV) Cumberlands (Ky.) on Tuesday night.

The Blue Raiders and the Patriots rarely disappoint when head-to-head. In fact, each of the last six meetings between the two have needed at least four sets, including back on September 17 in Williamsburg when Lindsey Wilson scored a crucial 3-1 victory.

Since then, and a subsequent loss to Campbellsville (Ky.), the Patriots have won 10 consecutive matches and have dropped only six sets.

Sara Zampedri and Allyson Grava continue to pace Cumberlands' offense, having produced 172 and 124 kills, respectively, during the winning streak. The duo has each been named Mid-South Attacker of the Week four times this season and are top two in the league for total kills and kills per set.

Lindsey Wilson checks into this significant match-up in the midst of a three-match winning streak that features big results over Campbellsville and Cumberland (Tenn.).

Elisa Burzio's 40 kills and Laura Milori's 55 digs are both team-highs over the last three outings.

In the season's first meeting with Cumberlands, Ola Wyrzykowska recorded a 14 kill, 18 dig double-double, Luiza Gonçalves finished with 44 assists and 16 digs, and Savanah Pippin dialed in 13 kills and seven blocks.

As for the Patriots, Zampedri proved the most damaging with 18 kills, 16 digs, and three aces.

Lindsey Wilson will recognize its 2024 senior class on Tuesday prior to the varsity match. The Blue Raiders are set to honor Brenda Arango, Alessia Bergesio, Burzio, Bella Christófaro, Autumn McCutchen, Milori, Elizabeth Moore, Pippin, Lillie Walker, Jada Whited, and Madey Winspear.

Junior varsity action opens the doubleheader at 4 p.m. CST, followed by varsity at 6 p.m. CST

Live coverage of both matches will be provided by the Lindsey Wilson Sports Network.
